STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- Stafford County detectives and Pennsylvania police worked together to arrest a 34-year-old sex offender.
The investigation into Jesse Abecrombie started back in October 2023 when a detective with the Stafford County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) received a cyber tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) program. The tips, which continued into January 2024, revealed that a possible Stafford County man was talking with juveniles over social media to try and get them to send explicit images of themselves to him.
As the detective continued his investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) contacted him in February 2024 that it had also been looking into Abecrombie for similar crimes. The detective and PSP began working together.
On March 1 at around 9:15 a.m., SCSO detectives detained Abecrombie at Royal Farms located at 1221 Warrenton Rd. Later that day, a search warrant was executed at Abecrombie's Meadows Road home and detectives found numerous electronics relating to their cases.
He was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail and held without bond.
PSP charged Abecrombie with child pornography, unlawful contact with a minor, dissemination of explicit sexual material to minors and indecent exposure.
SCSO said detectives were still going through all the evidence seized to determine "all the appropriate charges."
