(WHTM) -- President Joe Biden has approved a disaster declaration for multiple Pennsylvania counties hit by Tropical Storm Debby in August.

The disaster declaration will make federal funding available to affected individuals in Lycoming, Potter, Tioga, and Union counties where, in some cases, homes were swept away by water and infrastructure was severely damaged.

The storm particularly impacted Pennsylvania's Northern Tier and both New York's Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions where towns were forced to evacuate due to severe flooding.

Residents can use this federal assistance for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas can begin applying for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or by using the FEMA App.

Last month Governor Josh Shapiro issued a disaster emergency for 28 counties impacted by the storm so they can receive state assistance for recovery efforts. This allowed $2 million in state funds to be disbursed to those impacted.

Pennsylvania Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (PAVOAD), a coalition of local, state, and national volunteer organizations providing aid during disaster recovery, including clean up assistance. PAVOAD has established a Debby-specific website and crisis hotline 1-844-965-1386. For other disaster assistance available, survivors can contact PA 211 by dialing 2-1-1, or 1-855-567-5341.

Those who are still recovering from Debby can also contact the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA).
