(WHTM)-- The northern lights are sweeping through Central Pennsylvania this week, but that's not the only extraordinary celestial event scheduled for this week.

Tonight, July 30, spectators and astronomy fanatics are in for a treat because not one but two meteor showers will peak simultaneously.

Tonight might be the peak of the celestial show, but the showers are supposed to last through early August, according to the American Meteor Society.

According to Earth.com, the Delta Aquarids - known for their fast and bright meteors- and the Alpha Capricornids - with their slower, colorful meteors- are set to make a stunning display in skies around the world tonight.

Although the event will be more visible in the Southern Hemisphere, where showers tend to occur more frequently, they will still be visible to those in the Northern Hemisphere who take the necessary steps to see them.

Earth.com says spectators should find a dark location away from any natural lighting, especially the city, to experience the uninterrupted spectacle.

Earth.com says the earlier spectators arrive to watch the show, the better. Spectators should take time to let their eyes adjust to the dark.
