HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - Supporters of third-party presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. rallied in Harrisburg Monday to celebrate and turn in petitions to appear on Pennsylvania's general election ballot.

The Kennedy campaign says they turned in over 4,000 signatures on Monday, bringing the total number of signatures they've collected to more than 15,000.

Presidential candidates need to collect 5,000 signatures to appear on Pennsylvania's general election ballot. In June they submitted the initial paperwork to appear on Pennsylvania's ballot.

"Pennsylvanians have spoken,” said the Kennedy campaign's Pennsylvania State Director Bill Cox. “They want Kennedy on the ballot — the leader who cares about them, their families, their food, their health, and their ability to live a quality life.”

In Pennsylvania, candidates have until August 1 to circulate and file nomination papers. Pennsylvania has a history of third party candidates possibly playing spoiler in the presidential election. In 2020 Libertarian Jo Jorgensen received more than 79,000 votes. In 2016 three candidates - Libertarian Gary Johnson, the Green Party’s Jill Stein, and the Constitution Party’s Darrell Castle - combined to receive more than 218,000 votes.

The Kennedy campaign says they've collected enough ballots to appear on 34 state's ballots.
