CHARLESTON TWP, Pa. (WETM) — An investigation into a garage fire last week that spread to a nearby church in Tioga County has revealed a possible cause of the fire, according to information from Pennsylvania State Police.

The investigation into the fire that burned the Cherry Flats Baptist Church and a nearby garage is said to have started in the garage and is believed to have been an electrical fire.

Police said that due to the extent of the damage sustained to the garage, the fire remains undetermined, despite the investigator's beliefs.

State police announced that around noon on Wednesday, July 24, the Wellsboro Fire Department responded to a fire inside a garage on 2283 Cherry Flats Road in Tioga County.

The report says that when crews arrived the fire had already spread to the church, and both structures were considered a loss.

Police said the church and contents were estimated to be worth around $700,000 with the garage and contents valued at $35,000 and the siding damage to nearby structures valued at $15,000.

Police confirm that no injuries were sustained as a result of the fire.
