(WHTM)-- Some neighbors to our north are about to hear of WellSpan Health for the first time.

The York-based hospital system is buying Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg.

Evangelical has had financial problems as a small hospital in a world of giant healthcare systems, but WellSpan leaders say this isn't a one-way deal. They say what Evangelical does well, could benefit Midstaters.

"Just as an example, Summit Health, which was, a system that joined us about five years ago, was, really great at lean management and high reliability," WellSpan Health CEO Roxanna Gapstur said. "And we brought those services into WellSpan and really expanded that across our whole system."

Summit included what are now WellSpan Hospitals in Chambersburg and Waynesboro.

Evangelical is on track to become a part of WellSpan by July 1.
