(WJET/WFXP)-- A Michigan man was indicted by a federal grand jury in Erie, PA Friday for allegedly sexually abusing a minor, producing child pornography, and selling it across multiple states.

After an investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies, Matthew Chantelois, 45, of Dearborn Heights, Michigan was the only defendant named in the three-count indictment handed down on Feb. 23.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of PA, Chantelois is being charged for allegedly persuading, inducing, and enticing a minor into sexually explicit conduct in order to produce visual depictions of the act along with possessing and transporting child sexual abuse material across multiple states between Oct. 2023 and Jan. 2024.

He now faces between 15 and 60 years, a fine of $750,000, or both if convicted though the sentence handed down would be based on the seriousness of the offense and any criminal history.

Chantelois was previously arrested on Jan. 24 for interference of a child, corruption of minors, and furnishing alcohol to a minor after being found at a Summit Twp. hotel with a 16-year-old runaway New York girl.

He was later released from Erie County Prison on Jan. 25 after posting $100,000 bond.

The FBI, Pennsylvania, and New York State Police, along with the Dearborn Heights Police were involved in the investigation that led to the indictment.

An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
