UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WTAJ) – THON had another record-setting year in 2024, raising millions of dollars to fund research and treatment of pediatric cancer.
Representatives at THON announced on Sunday afternoon, after 46 hours of dancing and taking a stand against childhood cancer, that $16,955,683.63 was raised through donations.
This money will be used to support children and families in their battle against pediatric cancer. According to a statement made by representatives after THON, in its 47-year partnership with Four Diamonds, not one of the over 4,800 families the program supports has received a single medical bill.
The total amount raised this year at THON is enough to pay for these and other, services at Penn State Health Children's Hospital:
- 1,056 days of dedicated social work support
- 539 weeks of prescription drug co-pays
- 105 days of Four Diamonds research program funding
- 5,112 weeks of additional family support costs, including gas and meals
- 664 weeks of psychological counseling
This money was raised through the hard work and dedication of fundraising committees, independent dancers, the Commonwealth Campuses, and general, Greek, and special interest organizations.
THON's live stream, presented by 46Live, was watched by 32,514 unique households in 58 countries. Donations can still be made online for those who were unable to attend.
