(WTAJ) -- As Pennsylvania gears up for the primary election in April, Representative Tim Brennan (D-Bucks) is looking to introduce legislation that would prevent people from bringing firearms to polling locations.

The legislation, co-sponsored by Representative Mary Daley (D-Montgomery), would prohibit people from carrying firearms at polling places. Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas were cited in the legislation as already having laws that don't allow people to carry at polling places.

"Over the years, we have heard more and more about voters and election workers being threatened, harassed, or intimidated at polling places.," Brennan said in a release. "As a result, many voters have expressed concerns about voting in person at their assigned polling location, and many voting districts have struggled to find or retain volunteers to work at such locations."

The ban would not apply to law enforcement or active military personnel that are carrying a firearm while voting.

If passed when the Pa. House returns on March 18, the bill would take effect 60 days after.
