PENNSYLVANIA (WHTM) -- First through sixth graders across the Commonwealth are being invited to participate in the state's annual Lyme Art Contest, which promotes awareness of tickborne diseases and safety.

The annual contest, organized by the Pennsylvania Department of Health Bureau of Epidemiology invites Pennsylvania students to submit posters or videos demonstrating how to avoid exposure to ticks, check for ticks, and remove ticks.

The contest criteria states that videos should be under 30 seconds and posters should be no larger than 11'' by 17''.

The Department says winners will be selected for each category and grade level.

According to the department, participation in the contest encourages interactive student learning about the dangers of ticks and safety precautions that can be taken.

This is important, the department notes, because children are at a higher risk for being bitten by ticks and Pennsylvania is a leading state for Lyme disease.

The deadline to submit to the 2024 Lyme Art Contest is March 15 and more information about how to participate in the contest is available at health.pa.gov.ticks.
