(WHTM) — The avian flu is continuing to spread throughout Pennsylvania, and many are wondering if they should worry about the bird flu if they have a bird feeder.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA), if you have domestic birds or are near or on a farm, they recommend removing bird feeders and other places where wild birds feed, as well as standing water that attracts them, to the greatest extent possible.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission adds that you should keep food for other animals under cover or where wild birds cannot access it and clean your bird feeders regularly.

Although the avian flu does not particularly affect the species that are typically attracted to feeders, you should follow the PDA's instructions if the above scenarios apply to you, per the Game Commission.

Avian influenza has been detected in multiple Midstate poultry facilities this year.
