LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -- Lancaster County Commissioner Josh Parsons has announced his plans to seek the Republican nomination for Pennsylvania's 36th Senatorial District.
Lancaster County Commissioner Josh Parsons announced earlier this morning his plans to seek the Republican nomination for Pennsylvania's 36th Senatorial District seat, which is currently held by Sen. Ryan Aument.
This announcement comes just weeks after Sen. Aument announced he would be resigning from his position as State Senator after accepting a job as Senate-elect Dave McCormick's State Director.
Aument previously told ABC27 News he intends to officially resign from his position as Pennsylvania State Senator prior to January 3, 2025.
Following his resignation, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis would have 10 days to declare a date for the special election to fill the empty seat.
"I look forward to sharing my vision for Pennsylvania with voters in the 36th District," Lancaster County Commissioner Parsons said in a press release posted to X. "Over the past eight years we have created real, conservative results for the people of Lancaster County. We defended freedom, helped secure our elections, defended our values, kept taxes low, and kept citizens safe. We made Lancaster County an even more amazing place to live, work, and raise a family. Together we can deliver those same results in Harrisburg."

Just hours after Parsons announced his plans to seek the nomination, Congressman Lloyd K. Smucker, who represents Pennsylvania's 11th Congressional District, offered his endorsement, saying in part that "Josh Parsons has shown he is a thoughtful and results driver conservative leader."
According to Lancaster County's website, Parsons previously served as an Army infantry officer and a prosecutor. Additionally, Parson taught as an instructor for a Trial Advocacy class at the Penn State Dickinson School of Law for 15 years.
Parsons was recently reelected as Lancaster County Commissioner in November 2023, earning more votes than any other commissioner candidate in Lancaster County history.
