(WHTM) — While some restaurants close their doors on holidays like Christmas, others open them up!
“Every holiday, we're always open,” said Steven Ghatas, co-owner of the City Line Diner in Harrisburg. “Christmas is probably one of the biggest crowds we got besides Mother’s Day.”
Diners throughout the Midstate get more customers than you may expect on holidays.
“We have been extremely busy,” said Jamie Evelhoch, a waitress at the Squeaky Rail Diner in East Pennsboro. “It can be chaotic, but we're team players, so we can get the job done.”
Ghatas told abc27 News they had a line outside the door on Christmas.
“People would wait like 10 minutes up to 25 minutes just to sit down,” he said. “All the families, you know, coming from all over the world to meet, you know, their family that live here.”
While it would be nice to stay home for the holiday, Evelhoch and Ghatas say they enjoy serving the community.
“You have to give back to the community,” Ghatas added. “They're here to help support you, so you got to give them back the support.”
And that support from the community is reciprocated — especially in tips.
“Our customers are amazing,” said Evelhoch. “Every holiday that we have and especially Christmas, they're very generous.”
While some businesses are open for the holidays, their hours may vary.
