MERCER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) -- Earlier this week, a Pennsylvania-based medical center announced it will be closing early next year, resulting in the loss of several hundred jobs.

According to a WARN notice filed with the Department of Labor & Industry, the Sharon Regional Medical Center, located at 740 East State Street in Mercer County, will be closing its doors early next year.

As a result of their upcoming January 6, 2025 closure, there will be 149 professional staff jobs affected, and an additional 699 line staff affected.

In total, nearly 848 jobs will be lost.

abc27 news reached out to Sharon Regional Medical Center yesterday afternoon but has not heard back at the time of this publication.

According to Sharon Regional Medical Center's website, they have been providing health care services to the region for more than 124 years. Sharon Regional is a 163 licensed, acute care bed hospital that boasts 19 satellite centers throughout the region.
