(WHTM) - Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has ordered flags be lowered to half-staff in honor of Battalion Chief John P. Walsh, who died while in the line of duty, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, in Pittsburgh.

The United States and Commonwealth flags on all Commonwealth facilities, public buildings, and grounds in Allegheny County will fly at half-staff immediately.

Pennsylvanians across the state are also encouraged to participate in the tribute.

The flags shall be lowered to half-staff until sunset on the date of internment, which has not yet been announced.

Walsh, 60, suffered a medical emergency while in command of a fire response in Allegheny County. He served for 37 years and was described as a "master tactician on the fire grounds" by Fire Chief Darryl Jones.
