(WHTM) - Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has signed a law that will update Pennsylvania's Lemon Law to cover motorcycles.
Previously the Lemon Law was designed to protect consumers who purchased a defective car. Now the law covers motorcycles and dual sport motorcycles that are driven off-road.
S.B. 155 had been introduced by State Senator Michele Brooks (R-Crawford/Lawrence/Mercer). State Representative Nick Pisciottano (D-Allegheny), who had proposed similar legislation in the house, praised lawmakers who helped pass the updated law.
“Consumers should never be left out to dry if they purchase a defective product – whether it’s a car, motorcycle, or any other good on the market,” said Pisciottano, D-Allegheny. “Under this new law, motorcycle manufacturers will now be required to repair any major defects that occur within the first 12,000 miles or first year of ownership.”

If the manufacturer fails to repair or correct the issue after a "reasonable number of attempts" then the owner can receive a replacement that is comparable and of equal value, or a refund.
The updated law will take effect in six months.
