(WHTM)-- Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced a $100 match for PA 529 Guaranteed Savings Plan Accounts (GSP).
According to Garrity, families with the PA 529 GSP may be eligible for up to $100 in matching contributions. Account owners who make contributions before Dec. 31 can receive a matching deposit of up to $100.
“I’m thrilled to offer this boost for families saving with the PA 529 GSP. I hope many families will make a deposit before the end of the year to take advantage of this great offer – and I hope more families will take this opportunity to start saving with the PA 529 GSP," Garrity said. "It’s a fantastic tool to help families save for whatever education path their child takes, including community colleges, four-year universities, technical and career training, and apprenticeships.”
Garrity said this deal is made possible through funding from the GSP surplus earnings. Depending on the method of contributions, it could take up to two weeks for contributors to receive their money.
Additionally, families of children born after Jan. 1, 2019, can claim their child's $100 Keystone Scholars account. This account provides a $100 starter deposit for a child's education.
The purpose of PA 529 is to support families in saving for education expenses. Account owners have access to significant state and tax benefits that don't negatively impact eligibility for state financial aid, per Garrity.
