(WHTM) -- The election is a week away and voting concerns remain for many Pennsylvanians.

“I encourage Pennsylvania residents to check your voter registration status online at vote.pa.gov to ensure the information is accurate,” said Al Schmidt, PA Secretary of State.

Schmidt gives this advice, following a recent attempt at voter registration fraud in Lancaster County, where county election staff members identified more than 2,000 suspected fraudulent voter registration applications.

“In addition to identifying what they perceived to be potentially fraudulent voter registration applications and turning them over to law enforcement to investigate,” Schmidt added.

Meanwhile in York County officials are looking into thousands of election related materials, including voter registration and mail in ballot applications dropped off by a third-party organization.

Julie Wheeler, the York County President Commissioner said in a statement, “As with all submissions, our staff follows a process for ensuring all voter registrations and mail-in ballot requests are legal. That process is currently underway. If suspected fraud is identified, we will alert the district attorney's office.”

Schmidt believes these incidents should help you trust the elections.

“This is a sign that the building safeguards in our voter registration process are working,” Schmidt said. “Pennsylvanians can have confidence that November 5th election will be free, fair, safe and secure.”
