(WHTM) - Pennsylvania voters will have a chance to vote for their next Treasurer in 2024 with incumbent Republican Treasurer Stacy Garrity facing Democrat businesswoman Erin McClelland in November.

Here is a closer look at the candidates running for Treasurer in 2024.

Democrats

Erin McClelland

Allegheny County Democrat Erin McClelland entered the race for Treasurer in 2023 and won the April 23 primary over Ryan Bizzarro.

McClelland has worked as a substance use/mental health counselor and a policy advisor for the Allegheny County Department of Human Services.

In 2014 and 2016, McClelland was the Democratic Party nominee for Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional District covering Cambria, Somerset, Beaver, Westmoreland, Lawrence, and Allegheny Counties. She lost the 2014 race by about 40,000 votes and the 2016 race by more than 84,000 votes.

"Being on the ballot with Donald Trump and seeing first-hand the issues of rural and working-class voters ignored by my own party was an experience and a conscious awareness that I carry with me to this day," says McClelland on her campaign website.

McClelland says Pennsylvania needs to elect a Treasurer who is a "responsible, honest-broker" to rebuild the supply chain and manage taxpayer coffers "with diligence and accountability."

McClelland was the only Democrat row office candidate to not receive an endorsement from Democrat Governor Josh Shapiro. The decision is possible payback from Shapiro after McClelland urged Vice President Kamala Harris not to pick Shapiro as her running mate.

State lawmakers, as well as McClelland, alleged Shapiro swept allegations of sexual harassment by staffer Mike Vereb under the rug.

Republicans

Stacy Garrity

Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity is running for a second term in office.

Garrity narrowly won her first term as Treasurer in 2020, defeating Joseph Torsella by 52,546 votes. She was able to win in a year where Democrat Josh Shapiro won the Attorney Generals race by more than 300,000 votes and Joe Biden won Pennsylvania's presidential election by less than 100,000 votes.

During her first four years as Treasurer, Garrity has prioritized unclaimed property in the Treasury. According to her campaign, the Treasury returned nearly $274 million to more than 174,000 Pennsylvanians in the fiscal year ending June 2023.

Garrity also banned TikTok on Treasury devices, saying “TikTok presents a clear danger due to its collection of personal data and its close connection to the communist Chinese government."

Garrity has promised to eliminate waste and fight for a tax-deductible 401k-style retirement savings program.

A native of Athens, Bradford County, Garrity served in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Colonel and is the former Vice President of Global Tungsten and Powders Corp. in Bradford County. She has a degree in Finance & Economics from Bloomsburg University.

Third-Party Candidates

Chris Foster - Forward Party

Former Allegheny County Democrat Chris Foster is running for Treasurer on the Forward Party ticket. A graduate of Marist College, Foster spent 17 years as a tennis professional and most recently worked at Coldwell Bank realty as a real estate sales associate.

The Forward Party says they support diverse thinking, bipartisanship, a bottom-up system, and welcoming those from all political viewpoints. They view Pennsylvania as one of “The Battleground 12.” Foster was approved to appear on Pennsylvania’s ballot on September 16.

Nickolas Ciesielski - Libertarian Party

Nickolas Ciesielski was approved to appear on Pennsylvania’s ballot on September 16. Ciesielski was born and raised outside of Pittsburgh and has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He previously served as Vice-Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Georgia and currently serves as the chairman of the Libertarian Party of Westmoreland County.

Troy Bowman - Constitution Party

Troy Bowman was approved to appear on Pennsylvania’s ballot on September 16. He currently serves as Treasurer of the Constitution Party of Pennsylvania.

No Longer Running

Ryan Bizzarro

Democratic Party State Representative Ryan Bizzarro of Erie County, who was endorsed by the Pennsylvania Democrats, lost the April 23 primary to Erin McClelland.

According to his campaign website, Bizzarro had pledged to protect state assets and pensions, reimagine the unclaimed property process, and "keep Pennsylvanians closer to their money."
