(WHTM)-- U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced $600 million in funding for farmers across the U.S. today during a visit to the Pennsylvania State Capitol.
The funding, financed through the Inflation Reduction Act, will support over 650 clean energy projects in 39 states, including Pennsylvania, says the Biden Administration.
Farmers nationwide will have the opportunity to expand energy through wind, solar, Geothermal, and other clean methods.
"It's also going to be clean. In fact, it's probably going to reduce -- somewhere in the neighborhood -- of 100,000 metric tons of pollution out of the air. So you get cleaner air, cleaner energy, more reliable energy, safer energy and less expensive energy," Vilsack said.
Additionally, $600 million will be made available from the USDA in three rounds of funding from now until 2027.
In addition, according to the release, USDA is investing $126 million in REAP grants that will support 654 clean energy projects in 39 states, Guam and Puerto Rico. This includes $24 million in grants that will finance 112 clean energy projects in Pennsylvania.
Through the New ERA program, USDA is investing $20.5 million in Allegheny Electric Cooperative, the release stats. This award will help reduce energy costs and secure reliable, clean energy for rural residents in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
