PENNSYLVANIA (WHTM) – The Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society’s Park finder has a new feature that help’s families find accessible playgrounds near them.
"The amenity for accessibility is something we added because we're finding more and more Pennsylvania municipalities and townships are interested in working hard to bring accessible playgrounds to their communities," said Pennsylvania Recreation & Park Society admin and marketing assistant, Jane LaMar.
"As of right now, we have over 40 accessible playgrounds that you can search for," said Pennsylvania Recreation & Park Society director of communications, Emily Schnellbaugh.
Winding Hill Park North in Upper Allen Township, Cumberland County is one of those playgrounds.
"What we're trying to accomplish and move toward is inclusivity and accessibility with everything," said Upper Allen Township parks director, Chad Krebs.
So, all kids feel welcomed, Winding Hill Park North updated its park to fit the needs of kids with a variety of disabilities. The park has a sensory garden, maze, and music equipment.
Last year, Upper Allen Township Parks and Recreation became the first public park in Pennsylvania to become autism certified.
