(WHTM) -- State troopers say thousands of Pennsylvanians have had their applications to buy a firearm turned down over the past few months.
The state's instant check system found issues with those applicants which make it illegal for them to own a firearm.
Those issues include criminal history and lies on their application, among others.
We take it very seriously whenever we discover an individual knowingly lies on a firearms application, goes in there with an active warrant, or has another disqualifier," Lt. Adam Reed of the State Police said. "Law enforcement is going to look into that to see if you knowingly lied on that application and again, it's something that something could have serious legal consequences."
Since July 1, 251,000 gun applications were submitted and 3,700 were denied.
