(WHTM)-- Governor Shapiro called on the Pennsylvania State Senate to pass funding for mass transit on Monday, Sept 30.

Shapiro said on X that he proposed historic investments in mass transit, including funding for SEPTA and PGHTransit. The House initially passed that funding, but the Senate has yet to take action on it.

Shapiro weighed in on the importance of mass transit in Pennsylvania communities, saying it supports seniors and people commuting to work and keeps the economy moving.

Senators have expressed interest in funding mass transit alongside a tax on what are known as "skill games."

"I didn't have any objection to that, but they haven't passed that either. The Senate needs to act, if they want to pass skill games regulation and taxation and combine that with funding for mass transit and roads and bridges, fine, but the answer can't be to do nothing," Shapiro said.

If the Senate can get a bill to Shapiro's desk, he says it would benefit over one million Pennsylvanians who rely on public transportation.
