BRADFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WETM) — Bradford County District Attorney Richard Wilson released a statement on Friday reminding residents that stealing and defacing political signs is a crime under Pennsylvania law.
The release is a reminder to residents that stealing political signs from someone's property would be considered theft by unlawful taking and is a misdemeanor charge while defacing a political sign is called criminal mischief and a misdemeanor.
Those found guilty of these crimes could face jail time, probation, or a series of fines.
Wilson said in his statement that reports of sign theft have already reached his office and anyone with information on these incidents can call the DA's office at 570-265-1712.
Wilson is asking county residents to respect everyone's right to free speech, as political signs are a part of that.
