GRIMVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) -- A Philadelphia man is behind bars after state troopers say he struck a man on a Berks County Interstate and never stopped.
Akhmadkhon Ubaykhonov, 42, of Philadelphia, was arraigned Saturday morning on a felony charge of accidents involving death or personal injury.
According to the State Police at Hamburg, the incident happened around 5 p.m. Friday.
Jymel Dejuan Smith, 49, of Clermont, Florida, had stopped his tractor trailer along the shoulder of Interstate 78 in Greenwich Township, just east of the Krumsville/Kutztown exit.
Troopers said Ubaykhonov struck Smith and never stopped or let police know about the crash. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ubaykhonov and his vehicle were found away from the scene and he was taken into custody.
He was committed to Berks County Prison and denied bail.
