(WHTM) -- Emerson College released a new poll earlier Friday that shows former President Donald J. Trump leading Vice President Kamala Harris in this years upcoming presidential election.
According to the new Emerson College poll, the survey finds that 49% of voters in the Keystone State support former President Donald Trump, compared to 48% of voters that support Vice President Kamala Harris for president.
With undecided voters allocated, Trump extends to a 2-point lead with 51% support, compared to Harris's 49%.
The new poll also found that with third party candidates on the ballot, Trump's lead diminishes, tying Vice President Harris at 47%, with 3% of voters supporting Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
“Pennsylvania likely voters in unions break for Harris by 15 points, 57% to 42%, while those not in a union and without union members in the household break for Trump, 50% to 48%,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said. “Those with union members in the household break from Trump, 50% to 42%.”
Emerson Colleges' polling also found that Independent voters in the Commonwealth are leaning slightly towards Trump, with 48% supporting him in comparison to Harris' 45%. With that being said, Harris does have a small marginal lead over Trump with Suburban voters.
Furthermore, among new voters (those who did not vote in 2020), Harris has a significant lead with 61% support compared to Trump's 31%.
According to Emerson College, their new poll also showed that Younger voters under 40 support Harris over Trump, 61% to 36%; Trump's strongest base is among voters aged 50-69, where he leads Harris 57% to 40%.
Although Trump currently leads, it is important to note that last month, Trump led Harris 51% to 45% in Pennsylvania. This means Harris' support in Pennsylvania has increased by three points, from 45% to 48%.
The new Emerson poll also shows that the economy is the top issue for 51% of likely voters in Pennsylvania. This is followed by threats to democracy (12%), immigration (8%), housing affordability (6%), healthcare (6%), and abortion access (5%).
When it comes to the issue of fracking, 50% of voters trust Trump more to handle the issue, while 43% trust Harris more. 8% of the voters trust neither candidates on this issue.
