PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WHTM) - Law enforcement at a Pennsylvania airport recently found 100 rounds of ammunition in a passenger's luggage.
The Transportation Security Administration says its officers at Philadelphia International Airport found 100 bullets among a traveler's carry-on items on Wednesday.
"This happens all too often," said Lisa Farbstein, a TSA Spokesperson, on social media. "Please do not try to carry any ammunition--one bullet or 100--through a security checkpoint. Ammunition is not permitted to be carried onto a plane."
According to the TSA, travelers should check with their airline if ammunition is allowed in checked bags. Small arms ammunition must be securely packaged in fiber, wood, metal boxes, or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition.
Airlines may have limitations or fees associated with transporting ammunition and travelers are reminded to check local, state, and international law.
BB guns, cap guns, compressed airguns, firearms, flare guns, gun lighters, gunpowder, gun parts, pellet guns, realistic replicas, rifles, rocket launchers, and starter pistols are not allowed in carry-on bags. Travelers are also recommended to check whether their items can fly in a checked bag.
