JUNIATA COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) - Pennsylvania State Police say a State Trooper was injured when a tractor-trailer failed to move over and struck their vehicle.
State Police say on May 29, a State Trooper was conducting a traffic stop on US Highway 322 eastbound just east of the Mifflintown ramp. The Trooper was inside his vehicle with the emergency lights flashing when a tractor-trailer failed to move over.
The tractor-trailer, driven by a 74-year-old Ephrata man, lost control and struck the Trooper's vehicle. The Trooper suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lewistown Hospital by EMS.
The operator of the vehicle whom the Trooper had pulled over was not injured.
The tractor-trailer driver was charged with three summary offenses including not fulfilling his duty in an emergency response area.
Pennsylvania's Move Over Law requires drivers approaching an emergency response area to move to a lane further away. Those unable to move safely must slow to no more than 20 MPH below the posted speed limit.
An emergency response area "is where an emergency vehicle has its lights flashing, or where road crews or emergency responders have lighted flares, posted signs, or try to warn travelers."
